Find a Tournament

As of May 2021, Hampton Roads Chess Association and most of the country is returning to over-the-board chess.  We will no longer list online chess opportunities here.  Instead, you will find a list of local, state, and regional tournaments that may be of interest to you.  We generally include tournaments in the mid-Atlantic from North Carolina to Pennsylvania, as well as National championship level events.

LOCAL TOURNAMENTS – Hosted at the Mid-Atlantic Chess Center (MACC), 291 Independence Blvd, Suite 515, Virginia Beach (Pembroke 4)

All MACC Scholastic tournaments are individual-team Swiss tournaments, with trophy prizes for individual players and school teams.  These events are open only to youth in grades PK-12.  Players are broken down by ability (Rookie – unrated beginners; Novice (generally U400 or U500); Amateur (generally U800); and Elite (800+).

All MACC Action tournaments are individual Swiss tournaments, with cash prizes for individual players (amounts based on entries).  These events are open to players of all ages with US Chess membership (no Rookie / non-rated sections).

All MACC Scholastic and Action tournaments are 4-5 rounds.
