Intro to Chess

Are you or your child completely new to chess?  If you do not know how to set up a board, move the pieces, and play a game through to completion, our Intro to Chess course is the right choice for you!

Youth students may take this course as a prerequisite to join HRSCC if they are starting from scratch, or they may not be interested in competition and just want to learn how to play chess for fun.  This is also a great way for adults to learn to play from scratch.

These classes are available at community partner locations only.

Kempsville Recreation Center, 800 Monmouth Lane, Virginia Beach:  The first session starts January 9th and takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 PM for six weeks (12 classes).  Classes are separated by age, so older teens and adults have their own class.  The cost of the class is only $69.  Rec Center membership is required — the annual fee is very low and provides access to many other great programs and the city’s world class system of rec centers.  We also teach Intermediate Chess classes at this location, with different topics every session, five sessions a year.  If you miss the January start date, the next session begins February 27th.
