The Spring Chess Festival was held at MacArthur Center Mall on Saturday, April 27th, from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Final standings as follows:

Another great public tournament at the mall. Many thanks to MacArthur Center. Over 100 total players in blitz, bug, and main event.
FREE events available all day: Chess lessons, Giant chess set, Casual chess, Chess Variation tables: 3D, All Queen’s, Solitaire, Bughouse, Blitz, Fischer Random, 4-Way, Plunder, and Equalizer Dice.
Choose one (or none) of the following:
Blitz tournament — 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Entry fee $5. ALL AGES. Rated and unrated sections. Rated section may be further sectioned based on entries. Time control G/5; d0 (each player has 5 total minutes to make all their moves, with no grace period). Four double rounds (play each opponent twice, once as black and once as white). Swiss system (no elimination). Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
Bughouse tournament — 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Register both you and your partner simultaneously. Entry fee $10/team. Time control G/5; d0 (each player has 5 total minutes to make all their moves, with no grace period). Four double rounds (play each opposing team twice, colors are up to the teams). This event is not rated. Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
Simultaneous Exhibition with a Master — 12:30 to 2:00 PM. Entry fee $5. A Master plays multiple players at one time. Awards for a draw or win against the Master.
Main Tournament — 2:30-6:30 PM. Registration / check-in opens at Noon. 4 rounds Swiss system (not an elimination event). Time Control: G/25; d3 (Quick Rated Only) — each player has 25 minutes to make all their moves, with a 3 second grace period per move. Entry fee $10. Walk-ups will be rolled in to the next available round. Register by 2:15 PM to start with Round 1. Trophy prizes: Top 5 individuals in Junior Rookie, All Ages Novice, and Junior Elite. Top 3 individuals in Senior Rookie and Senior Elite. Medals and ribbons to all other individuals. Top 3 overall schools (cross-section). Top Mother-Child and Top Father-Child trophies (cross-section).
Junior Rookie (unrated players with little to no tournament experience in grades Pre-K through 5)
Senior Rookie (unrated players with little to no tournament experience in grades 6-12 and Adults)
All Ages Novice (USCF membership required, USCF rating under 600, youth and adults)
Junior Elite: (USCF membership required, USCF rating 600+, grades Pre-K through 12)
Senior Elite: (USCF membership, adults with USCF rating 600+, optional for youth rated 1000+)
