2nd U.S. Military Veterans Open [MVO]

The 2016 MVO had a very poor turnout. The MVO may not be held in 2017

 

This event is open to all honorably discharged veterans not eligible to play in the Armed Forces Open
Services include Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and US Public Health Service.

 

A 5 round Swiss System tournament. Time controls 40/2;d5 followed by SD/30;d5

Entry Fee:  $20.00  Remember you will be paired if you paid your entry fee. If you decide not to play, you must withdraw prior to the 1st round pairings or you will not receive a refund.

                  Registration:   On-line registration is now available. Click Enter the MVO above.  Please register on-line before Oct. 6 so we can get a better picture of our expected turnout and receive all required information.  

                     On-site reg: 0800-0845   
                                           All participants should bring their DD-214 form to prove veteran status. Please request a new copy if you lost yours.

                 Memberships:   Current USCF membership is required. You can join or renew at the tournament site. Checks and Credit Cards accepted.

                               Byes:  A single half-point is available. Byes must be requested at least 30 minutes prior to the start of round 2. Byes requested for rounds 4 & 5 may not be cancelled after the start of round 2.

                              Prizes:  Plaques to Top 2 overall players, Top U1700 and Top U1300 and various special prizes. Prizes may be increased based on advance entries.

                           Rounds:  Saturday  0930, 1500     Sunday  0900, 1500     Monday  0900

        Awards Ceremony:  Monday immediately after Rd. 5 concludes.  Please wear appropriate business attire for round 5 and the awards ceremony for public relations photo purposes.

                    Equipment:   Sets and boards will be provided. Please bring your chess clocks.

         Academy Access:  Enter through Gate 1 - visitors gate. Identify yourself as a registered MVO participant to receive a multi-day pass. Security will have a list of advance entries. 
                                        We strongly recommend you enter in advance so your name is on the participant list.

    Hotels and Billetting:  Pending site confirmation.
